“Locura de Cinco de Mayo” a night of music, family and friends featuring

Dusty Daisies:  3 vocal mics, violin, piano, guitar

Manta Donkey Hawk: 2 computers, bass, drums, keyboards/piano, Projectors

This is a concert celebrating our graduation from Berklee College of Music. The Dusty Daisies are an all female, folk/americana trio founded in Boston by three friends in 2015.  Their music conveys an impression of life that is both sweet and bitter.  Their haunting and precise three part harmonies take the listener on an ethereal journey through love, triumph and despair.

Manta Donkey Hawk was formed in the spring of 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts with the idea of creating a keyboard power trio in search of a new sound. The three come together to form a unique super group, playing original compositions that span the genres of progressive rock and psychedelic jazz.  Each member adds his own cultural influence: Guido from Argentina, Juan from Columbia and Gianluca from Brazil.

This will be a family event but is open to anyone who is interested in hearing a very diverse and unique concert.  People will be welcome as long as seats are available.

This is a concert celebrating our graduation from Berklee College of Music with our close friends and families.  The Dusty Daisies are a three piece, folk/americana band lead by Bette Miller.  Manta Donky Hawk is a prog-rock, jazz fusion band lead by Guido Consoli.

Kit Demos’ Dark Matter Series

Pat Battstone – piano / Antonella Chionna – vocals / Kit Demos – bass

Antonella Chionna is an Italian poet, vocalist and improviser.  She has released two CDs, both on the DodiciLune label, distributed internationally by IRD. The most recent, Half Way to Dawn ( Sing a Song of Strayhorn ) , features her lyrics to Billy Strayhorn tunes and has received excellent reviews from many Italian jazz and cultural magazines/journals. She has published two books of her poetry; her other works  have been included in several, prestigious Italian anthologies of poetry and music.

For the past year, Antonella and Boston pianist, Pat Battstone,  have been collaborating long distance, sharing ideas, recordings, and plans for their next musical adventures. She will be visiting the US during May, doing performances and recording sessions.

Battstone and bassist Kit Demos have been collaborating since 2012 with the inception of "The Last Taxi" and finally with their 2015 duet recording of "From Dream to Dream". Both recordings have had radio play success, climbing into the teens for multiple weeks on the CMJ national jazz playlists. Their latest recording efforts have involved  playing music to surrealist and symbolist poetry recitations.

Recent appearances have included the Star Theatre in Cherry Valley, NY with Richard Poole and Todd Brunel,  Outpost 186, in Cambridge MA with Norwegian trumpet player Yngvil Vatn Guttu and NYC drummer Chuck Fertal. This group also recorded 2 NPR broadcasts for Dream Farm Radio in the winter of 2016. Kit also appears with Charlie Kohlhase's Explorers Club and has his own "Dark Matter" series that regularly performs at Outpost 186.

This meeting fuses two duet collaborations into a trio of shared musical directions with new interpretation of standards, accompaniment to poetry, and spontaneous improvisation.   During Antonella's brief stay in here, they will be playing in Cherry Valley NY on May 20, at Outpost 186 ( Cambridge MA )  on May 22,  Resonance Cafe in Montreal on May 28, and finally at Ryles on June 1. On the final date, the trio will be augmented by veteran percussionist Richard Poole on vibraphone. The Ryles date will be the Nexus the past 7 years’ efforts in the formation of their “Chamber Improvisation”

Daniel Levin 4tet

Daniel Levin – cello / Matt Moran – vibes / Toby Cederberg – bass / Mat Maneri - viola, violin

Cellist Daniel Levin’s drummerless quartet occupies a musical space bordered by many kinds of music, but fully defined by none of them. Elements of European classical music, American jazz, microtonal and new music, and European free improvisation all figure prominently in the band’s unique sound. But as critic Chris Mays observes in All About Jazz, “Like all the most successful post-modern creative ventures, Levin’s quartet positions its antecedents in plain sight, but rises above them to create something novel, fascinating and unmistakably of its own time.” Levin and his quartet with violist Mat Maneri, vibraphonist Matt Moran, and bassist Toby Cederberg, is “a provocatively assembled group of adventurous musicians,” that makes music with “the wild chaos of nature somehow centered in a sense of harmonious majesty,” according to critic Donald Elfman.

Without drums, Levin and his band mates are free to explore rhythm, melody, timbre, and texture in extremely subtle and varied ways, creating an alluring braid of lines shaded by autumnal colors, vocal inflections, and precise dynamics. “This group is able to rethink the dynamics and dialectic of a “jazz” group and find new phrasing, spacing and modes of interaction,” notes Elfman. Levin’s compositions set a lyrical tone suffused with mystery and ambiguity. But the quartet remains poised and open to the possibilities offered by the music. “For all its balance and clarity,” says Point of Departure, “the music tempers its delicacy with a dark, unsentimental edge that pushes it past the polite banter of chamber jazz into something deeper and truer.”

Fat Shuggy Acoustic

Wendy Eisenberg, Adrienne Arditti & Nick Neuburg.

Fat Shuggy is a an artist who describes themselves as "horror", and will play a lot of instruments "the wrong way". Typically very loud with a lot of noise, feedback and loops; but will be playing a very rare acoustic set with no electronics while still being just as wild as always.

The trio of Wendy Eisenberg, Adrienne Arditti and Nick Neuburg features members of bands such as Birthing Hips, Listening Woman, The Particulars, EKP, Spirit Level and Wendy Alembic; and will be playing mellow experimental music somewhere in between avant-garde jazz, singer songwriter music, soul, and traditional Brazilian music, as well as lots of other influences.
