Steve Thomas & the Real Incognitos
Steve Thomas – compostions, vocals
John Funkhouser - electric keyboards
Greg Loughman – bass, electric bass
Mike Connors - drums

We’re jazz players, but we like/play a lot of other musics too. REAL INCOGNITO investigates some idioms we’re attracted to: reggae, ‘60s soul, Balkan odd meters, N. African gnawa . . . OK, we really just wanna be an oddball, globe-trotting rock ’n’ roll band. Tunes include oblique tributes to heroes Robert Frank and Paul Motian, skewed reflections on dental and skin care, and selections from the TBI/TBD Suite.

John Funkhouser (John Funkhouser Trio), Mike Connors (Sonic Explorers), and Greg Loughman (Lowman) are in constant motion on the local and national music scenes. Unlike lesser mortals, they do not seem to require sleep.

Filipino-American guitarist/composer Karl Evangelista (b.1986) ranks among a new wave of creative musicians grounded in jazz, 20th century experimentalism, and popular song, exploring the place of multiculturalism and ethnic co-existence in an increasingly post-cultural, trans-idiomatic cultural space. As the creative force behind boundary breaking group Grex, Evangelista has been called “essential current-and-future listening, his music "a near-seamless blend of modern jazz, contemporary structuralist composition, indie rock, and blues rock” (Tiny Mix Tapes). This complex, powerful aesthetic fosters an “otherworldly experience” that is “completely original” (Eugene Weekly).
He's worked locally in groups with or under the direction of Roscoe Mitchell, Fred Frith, Muhal Richard Abrams, Francis Wong, Eddie Gale, Tatsu Aoki, Lewis Jordan, Hafez Modirzadeh, and Myra Melford, among others.

"[Karl Evangelista and Grex take] their cue from farther back, when art-college-gestated bands like Genesis and Henry Cow were musically voracious, ridiculously intense, and technically adventurous." (Foxy Digitalis)

Angela Sawyer & Duck That!
Improvised jazz trio that's upsidedown & backwards, with lots of hunting calls used as instruments. The main members sometimes have guests on guitar, reeds or tabletop junk. But sometimes they also just throw their instruments at the audience. They've issued a cd, a cdr, 3 inch, & a split lp in the 4 years that they've been playing around Boston.

Ducks are sometimes confused with several types of unrelated water birds with similar forms, such as loons or divers, grebes, gallinules, and coots. The word duck (from Anglo-Saxon duce), meaning the bird, came from the verb "to duck" (from Anglo-Saxon supposed *ducan) meaning "to bend down low as if to get under something" or "to dive", because of the way many species in the dabbling duck group feed by upending (compare Dutch duiken, German tauchen = "to dive"). Duck That were once seen in the same room as Paul Whiteman, although they'd deny it if asked.
