Tim
Tsang - Minimoog, Keyboard & Electronics
The work of Tim Tsang,

contemplation. His exciting performances throughout Canada and the US exhibit a

Guitarist Norm Zocher presents the Return of the
PedalSteel Guitar Quartet
On the heels of his of a year of groundbreaking performances
at the International Steel Guitar Convention in St. Louis, festivals in Canada,
Jordan Hall, the Berklee Performance Center, and more, guitarist/composer Norm
Zocher will bring The Return of the Pedal Steel Guitar
Quartet to Outpost 186 at 8:00PM on Monday, June 18.
In the tradition of western swing giants Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant, the quartet features Boston's own pedal steel guitar master Norm Zocher, Berklee College of Music Guitar Department Assistant Chairman and post Scofield to Jerry Reed/Chet Atkins specialist Rick Peckham, bassist Bruno Raberg, and Dave Jamrog on drums. The quartet puts a distinctly 21st century spin on this unusual vintage instrumentation, performing Zocher's compositions - as well as fearturing his first-ever performances of John Coltrane's 26-2 on pedal steel guitar and Giant Steps on the E9 “Hillbilly” neck of the instrument. Since first laying hands on the instrument three years ago, Norm has had a meteoric rise in the world of pedal steel guitar, playing to rave reviews and culminating in his performance at the International Steel Guitar Convention, known as the Super Bowl of steel guitar, where 5,000 steel guitarists from 33 countries converge on St. Louis. His pioneering work for pedal steel guitar and big band will be featured on the upcoming Jazz Composers Alliance CD Stories later this year.
Referred to as "a guitar legend in the making" as well as one of "Boston's best composers," guitarist and composer Norm Zocher is a long-time New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music faculty member. He has performed and recorded a broad range of artists including Maria Schneider, Muhal Richard Abrams, Oliver Lake, John Medeski, Steve Lacy, Bob Brookmeyer, Esperanza Spalding, Paul Bley and Dave Holland. The recordings of the Abby and Norm Group with his wife, fellow Berklee guitar professor Abigail Aronson Zocher, gained him international recognition as a composer and an instrumentalist. Other critically acclaimed albums have featured Zocher with Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, John Patitucci and Joey Calderazzo. He is a resident composer and guitarist/pedal steel guitarist for the Jazz Composers Alliance Orchestra.

This Junk
Kitchen show is dedicated to defining our standard for new music. All
the pieces here are written especially for this night. And just as the FDA
qualifies that food is only fresh within 72 hours of preparation, we are
requiring that our composers create their pieces no more than 72 hours before
the first performance – and I mean the very first, no rehearsals, no
run-throughs – just as is, when served up steaming and aromatic, by our Junk
Kitchen Players. The strike of the notes will be the first time ears ever hear
it.

CD RELEASE CONCERT:
TERRIBLE BAUBLES
Lo Galluccio - voice, poetry
Eric Zinman - piano, keyboard, percussion
Jane Wang - cello
Eric Zinman - piano, keyboard, percussion
Jane Wang - cello
Avant
singer, poet performance artist Lo Galluccio, siren from the Knitting Factory
scene of the 90's returns to the stage in
collaboration with two international artists: pianist/keyboardist/ percussionist Eric Zinman and cellist Jane Wang on tour to promote their new CD 'Terrible Baubles' released on studio234 record label catalog #009, an experimental CD of surreal poetry and song. Lo's voice speaks, chants, screams and melodizes her story through thick keyboard, percussion and cello. Three strong individual voices at times seem suspended like mobiles as piano/percussion and cello move freely with and around the poetry like a shamanic ritual of cymbals drums and bells. Eric Zinman often plays keyboard and percussion simultaneously. At times Lo summons the Zither Gods of the Arctice. Be warned! They will perform music from the CD with new material
