ERIC JACKSON of WGBH jazz on Outpost in Globe Travel section, 9 Jan. '10:
Jackson says jazz fans who enjoy experimental acts should also check out Outpost 186 in Cambridge’s Inman Square. “The musicians at the Outpost stretch in different directions. It’s probably the most adventurous of the clubs out there.’’

Vortex presents
Ben Miller – guitar & electronics
Sonic Sandbox : Forrest Larsen – electronics / David Brown – Didgeridoo / Todd Brunel - clarinet
Cultivating his technique since 1982, Ben Miller/degeneration presents a sonic tapestry that defies standard guitar playing. By using several pickups outputted separately through two chain of effects, Miller produces a texturous, multiphonic soundscape. With the addition of a wide variety of preparations, radio and analog tape, it is difficult to discern where any one sound originates or where it is headed. Sonic Sandbox, an improvisational trio consisting of composer and electronic musician Forrest Larsen, percussionist and Didgeridoo player David Brown and clarinetist Todd Brunel will be performing in support of their latest release, "Turbulence."

Bait & Switch, San Francisco bassist Lisa Mezzacappa's garage jazz quartet, funnels rowdy collectivity into finely-honed compositions steeped in free jazz abandon, avant-Caribbean groove and garage rock attitude. Bait & Switch released its debut CD on the Clean Feed label this summer.

"Lisa Mezzacappa's presence on a bandstand is one sign that musical fireworks are about to ignite."
- San Francisco Chronicle

"Mezzacappa's Bait & Switch delivers a raw, unfettered dose of primal expressionism that also works as sophisticated modern jazz." - Troy Collins, Point of Departure

Music: Clinton Degan
Poetry: Sarah Pearlstein

To benefit FEED FUND : Support The Starving Artist In Your Life!

Using Mark Ravenhill's play “pool (no water)” as inspiration, pool is an original performance focusing on the themes of Artistic Jealousy and being Present vs. Absent. This piece is being collaboratively created with the cast, primarily using forms from Interplay theater (with some exception).

This is a work-in-progress showing, and your feedback is greatly encouraged. There will not be a formal talk back, but there will be time after the show to mingle with the artists. We are also raising money to the cost of the final show in January. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated.

This semi-irregular performance series is designed to both showcase and raise money for local starving artists, while feeding you! In a time when everyone is feeling the financial burden, coming together to support each other as a community is more important that ever. Enjoy good food, good drink, and good conversation.
